WSoP Main Event: Day 1

WARNING: If you're wanting to wait until the WSoP Main Event is shown on ESPN before finding out anything about it, stop reading now. . .and don't bitch to me if you keep going. Well, damn it, since football season doesn't start for another month or two, I should probably contribute something in the meantime. For those of you who may or may not remember me, my name is Chris Gates, and I was OMG.com's resident "football guy" for the short time it graced the internet landscape. If what we did could have been classified as "gracing." That's probably really stretching things. Anyway, today (or yesterday, depending on when you read this) is the day where roughly half of the human race has converged on Las Vegas to begin the biggest event in the poker world. . .the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event. Last year, Greg "Fossilman" Raymer turned a $100 satellite entry into a $5 million payday as the Main Event winner, defeating over 2500 o...

Rosser-Per-View: Vengeance

THE CHAMP IS HERE. John Cena premieres on a RAW PPV in a triple threat match for his belt against the Ayatollah and the Captain, says the video. FOR EVERY BEGINNING, THERE COMES AN END. Batista. Triple H. Hell In A Cell. World Title. (Oh, and props to whoever snuck the Manson snippet of "CruciFiction In Space" in there towards the end.) --Vengeance is brought to you BAH: THQ's Juiced. Coach is with the usual suspects for a change. Hugo & Carlos are at ringside waiting for the inevitable. The set is all Vegas, baby, Vegas, with a roulette wheel, oversized dice, the Welcome to Vegas sign used for the Tron, and playing cards to represent the match participants. Let's get it started in herrrrrrrre... INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE -- SHELTON BENJAMIN (248, Orangeburg, South Carolina) v. CARLITO (230, the Caribbean): Justin makes a rare error by annoucing 3C as the challenger, so Let Us Take You Back To Six Days Ago when a botched Shelton dive and Carlito CHEATING TO...

HERE COMES THE PAIN...AGAIN.

The former WWE Superstar admits that some of the responsibility rests on him. “I had some maturing to do. There comes a time in everybody’s life when you have to grow up,” said Lesnar. “But professional wrestling is in my blood. I may have second guessed it in the past, but I know it now.” -WWE.com Brock Lesnar is expected to officially sign his WWE contract tomorrow. This is not a definite, but at this moment he is pegged for the Smackdown side of things. -Da Meltz. The other extreme end of all the releases is that none other than WWE.com put up on their site that Lesnar is in meetings with officials. Meltzer confirmed a few hours later (thanks to Justin Shapiro) that he will be back in the building and on our TV again. Which goes to show you can go home again. Pencil in Batista/Lesnar for WM 22 baby!

And the axe continues to fall...

It's a bit late to be doing the spring cleaning, but that's not stopping WWE from releasing half of the roster. Meltz figures on another 8 to 10 cuts before the dust settles. Here is the list of the guys who have been cut, with expert analysis by your's truly as to where they might end up. Hahaha...expert. Hahaha...analysis. Dudley Boys - I'm actually quite interested to see where they wind up. Will Gabe milk the former ECW ties and try to get them into ROH, despite how poorly they'd fit in? Will they run the grand indy gauntlet, again popping through a bunch of companies where they just won't stylistically work? TNA bound? Can they afford it? They'd be a lock for any of the Shane Douglas promoted ECW shows, if they actually tour with it. Probably the biggest names cut and definitely the guys with the murkiest future... Matt Morgan - I wouldn't be particularly surprised to see him and/or Jindrak pop up in All Japan Pro Wrestling as part of the RO&D ...

Rawbservations

All aboard this train ride Talkin' 'bout raw, hardcore, leaving frauds on the outside! -- Public Enemy, "Nighttrain" 'sup, discerning wrestling fan. It's me, it's me, it's--Butch Rosser. Slash? Did it. OMG? Did it. Cubs Fan? Doing the PPV recaps when I can be bothered, and doing it well. Restraining order from Trish? Getting there. Anyway, this is as simple as Spaulding's deal--I watch Raw and comment on the show as it goes on. Considering my already "skewed" view of pop culture and my lengthy memories from watching wrestling about 15 years, it's going to be a trip for those who don't know. And if you do, then hail the Ayatollah of Rock N' Bowlah! - - - - - - - - - We the Peepsle miss Chrstian already. Highlight Reel AND the Cabana on the same show? Isn't that going to make the universe implode? Hey, they gave him an HResque corner logo. Ugh, I hate Sacramento. If Carlito's really cool, he'll make a move on Brooke....

Shane = helper monkey

For anyone who stumbles upon this that might be looking for some tapes, there are several places having some nice sales right now. Here's what I know of off the top of my head: Smart Mark Video - From July 4-8. if you buy four or more shows, you can take 25% off of your order. http://www.smartmarkvideo.com Ring of Honor - They're constantly doing a $6 VHS sale ($10 for two tape sets), as they're discontinuing their VHS collection. Also, for July 4th and 5th, they're doing a buy three, get one free sale on DVDs. http://www.rohwrestling.com Pro Wrestling Guerrilla - Wacky Fun Summer Time Specials! Buy 5 DVDs, get 1 free. Buy 10, get 2 free. It's simple mathematics, people! Also, if you buy any three of the following shows (Guitarmageddon, Jason Takes PWG, Ernest P. Worrell Memorial or All Nude Revue), you'll get free shipping. http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/ Highspots - More PWG silliness! Buy the Guitarmageddon DVD and get one of the following shows (44 Way...

Don't call it a comeback (unless you really, really want to)

Wow. Who knew that the internet would ever be subjected to the inane rantings of your's truly again? It's pretty sad that I actually miss doing this shit, but miss it I do. Many thanks to everyone who's going to kick in content, so there's at least a few things around here worth reading. YEAH! I'm still getting the design kinks worked out as well, so don't expect this place to look the same in a week. Or maybe you should make that a month. Laziness and all. Anyway, you didn't come here to read me write about nothing. That's what a normal blog is for and I hate them all. Excluding those of the fine people who write here, of course. Err...yeah. To the recappery we go! Clash of Champions (Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC - 3.27.88) I'll eventually get around to recapping all of the Clashes, since I now own all of them. Seems logical to do them in order. Most people already know the backstory behind this show, as Turner decided to cut into Wrestlemani...

WE'RE GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER

Hola muchachos! Allow me to reintroduce myself: My name is Johnny B. I was the Excess/Velocity recapper for the original site, plus I filled in for others when they were slacking off or in rehab. I, along with Rosser, rep the West Coast by way of Bremerton, Washington. Like Matt, I am also in the newspaper game, as I cover sports for the Bainbridge Island Review. But enough about me. Let's get down to what we're really here for. Matt did the Cliff Notes of Smackdown, but since Velocity had no new matches, I recapped what went down on: WWE SMACKDOWN FOR 6/30/05 (TAPED 6/27/05) TV-PG DLV WWE! It's entertainment! LAST WEEK: GM Teddy Long made the match for the NEW Smackdown Championship: Booker T. vs. Chris Benoit vs. JBL vs. Muhammad Hassan vs. the Undertaker, which, conincidentally, is TONIGHT! Smackdown intro. We are sorta live at the Pond In The City Of Anaheim That Is A Sort Of Suburb Of Los Angeles. No pyro, as MUHAMMAD HASSAN and DAIVARI are out to talk some trash. M...

SmackDown! 6/30/2005: For and Against

*smashes bottle across blog's bow* WE'RE BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER GOT A KNACK FOR MAKIN' THINGS BETTER ("Better", of course, meaning "lower-maintenance so Shane doesn't actually have to do any work.") Hola, bitches. I'm Matt. You might remember me from such Web sites as [slash], The Oracles' War Room, and Oh Em Gee Dot Com. And if you don't, that's... really no big loss, to be honest. (All right, so you already know who I am. The joke doesn't work unless I introduce myself.) I'm "The Sensible One" in the sidebar, if only by default. You last saw me do "The RAW Deal" for OMG a few years back. I've sworn off Raw now for two reasons: 1) I work Mondays, and more importantly 2) Triple H stopped being interesting about three years ago. So with S!D as my drug of choice these days and Butch creating the Rawbservations, I figured I'd do something. This is "For and Against", a concept I sto...
